Internship and Volunteer Opportunities

Gain valuable experience, earn a little bit of money and/or get university credit working with the University of Toledo Stranahan Arboretum.  For more information, please contact the Program Coordinator at (419) 841-1007.

1) Research Experience
University students interested in or enrolled in ecology or earth science related courses who would like to be involved with ongoing research projects should contact the program coordinator. 

2) Federal Work-Study and Internship Opportunities
Job duties may include: Mowing grass with riding mower, mulching leaves, line trimming, pruning trees, picking up litter, removing brush, chipping branches, irrigation work, blowing/raking leaves, painting, pulling weeds and other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, as position is off-campus; must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work in hot, cold, noisy and dusty conditions.  Please call Walter Schulisch at (419) 882-6806 to inquire about openings.

3) Maple Sugaring In-Class Experiences
Organizations and individuals are offered an opportunity to participate in this unique historic and science-based event, coordinated with the Olander Parks District.

4) General Volunteer Areas
General Land Management
General land management is always needed, from picking up sticks to pruning limbs.  Contact the arboretum horticulturist for more information to learn what training is needed.

Native Plant Garden Volunteer
Help maintain the Oak Openings native plant gardens. Duties could include planting, watering and weeding and all equipment will be provided.
