Welcome to the Arts and Sciences Council
The VOICE of SHARED GOVERNANCE
in the COLLEGE of ARTS and SCIENCES
Who We Are:
"The Arts and Sciences Council shall serve as the legislative branch of the College. It shall act on all matters related to the authority granted to the Faculty in the Bylaws of the Board of Trustees, including academic policies, curriculum, academic programs, academic standards, and degree requirements" (Constitution of the College of Arts and Sciences, Article V, Section 1). Also, within the College of Arts and Sciences, "members of all appointive committees shall be named by the Dean with the advice of the Executive Committee of the Arts and Sciences Council" (Constitution of the College of Arts and Sciences, Article III, Section 3). A & S Council represents the faculty, students, and administration of the college. Currently there are 61 available positions on Council: 52 for full-time tenure and tenure-track faculty (12 at large and 40 department representatives); 2 for full time lectures; 5 from the Dean's office (the Dean, 3 associate deans, and 1 assistant dean); and 3 student representatives.
Next Meeting:
The 2008-2009 official schedule will appear here after the Faculty Senate publishes its schedule. Normally we meet on the alternate Tuesdays not used by the Senate. Should emergency summer meetings be needed, they will be announced here and notice will be sent to the membership.
