Prepare to perform the following for your audition:
KEYBOARD:
Two pieces of contrasting style, one from the baroque or classical eras and one from the romantic or 20th century. (Memorization is preferred but not required.)
BRASS:
Scales to 4# and 4b, chromatic scale a prepared piece comparable to those found on the OMEA solo and ensemble contest list. (Must be accompanied for Scholarship Audition.)
WOODWIND:
Scales to 4# and 4b, chromatic scale two pieces (one fast, one slow) comparable to those found on the OMEA solo and ensemble contest list. (Must be accompanied for Scholarship Audition.)
PERCUSSION: Choose two instruments from the following:
SNARE DRUM: First 26 snare drum rudiments a prepared solo comparable to those found on the OMEA solo and ensemble list. (Class A or B)
MALLETS: All major scales, two octaves solo from OMEA solo list. (Class A or B)
TIMPANI: Demonstration of the ability to match pitches, short two or three Drumpiece comparable to the two or three drum exercises in the Saulgoodman timpani method book.
STRING: One etude and one of the following:
1- A movement of a solo sonata.
2- A movement of a concerto.
3- A short piece.
4- A movement of a sonata with piano.
5- Scales in all keys up to and including 4# and 4b
GUITAR:
One major and minor scale, two pieces from different periods.
HARP:
Scales and arpeggios, hands alone. Two pieces from different periods.
VOICE:
Two or more pieces in contrasting styles art songs or contest pieces preferred.
JAZZ:
Keyboard, wind, and bass players: scales to 4 b and 4#; chromatic scale, perform a blues tune and a jazz standard; improvise a few choruses. Percussionists: mallets -- same as above, first 26 snare drum rudiments, demonstrate jazz feel on the drum set, including brushes and latin feel.
