Mary Catherine (Katie) Jones is an orchestral and chamber musician, soloist, and instructor in Northwest Ohio. She is a member of the Buzzelli/Jones Flute and Harp Duo. The Duo has been the featured artists for a Live! from FM 91 broadcast and for a Young People’s Concert at Bowling Green State University. Their next performance will be on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the Manor House at Wildwood Metropark. In addition, the Buzzelli/Jones Harp Duo will also perform live on local radio on Live from FM91, Friday, November 7, 2008 at 10 a.m.
Katie has presented recitals in Ohio, Maryland, Michigan, Florida, and Washington, D.C., including a special performance of the music of women composers for Women’s History Month. She has performed with the Toledo Symphony Woodwind Quintet, Chamber Players, and Flute/Harp Duo. Katie has performed as Principal Flute with the Toledo Symphony, the Toledo Opera Orchestra, and the Hot Springs Festival Orchestra. She has also performed with the Savannah Sinfonietta and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. Katie can be heard as principal flute and piccolo on the Naxos American Classics CDs , Edmond Dede - Orchestral Works and Louis Moreau Gottschalk - A Night in the Tropics. Both recordings feature the Hot Springs Festival Orchestra with Richard Rosenberg, Artistic Director and Conductor.
Katie has given world premieres of Three Sketches by John Hillebrant, ...what is sorrow for? and untitled by Bradley Bombardier, and Thanatopsis - A Journey to Death for Solo Flute and Voices by Robert Steel. She has performed solo and chamber works at The University of Toledo’s Spring Festival of New Music and Bowling Green State University's New Music and Art Festivals.
Katie has taught on the faculties of Bowling Green State University, the University of Findlay, the Center for Creative Studies (Detroit, MI), and at Florida State University. She has given masterclasses at Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Katie has been an adjudicator for the Central Ohio Flute Association’s Annual Competitions, BGSU’s Creative Arts Competition and Undergraduate/Graduate Concerto Competitions , Buckeye State Auditions (Woodwinds), and the National Flute Association’s Convention Performer’s Competition (Head Tape Judge).
Katie’s students have won or placed in the Toledo Symphony Young Artist Competition, the Tuesday Musicale Association’s Arden J. Yockey Scholarship Competition, the Mid-South Flute Festival High School Soloist Competition, the Heidelberg College Performance Pacesetter Competition, the Perrysburg Symphony Concerto Competition, and the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs Agnes Fowler Competition. They have soloed with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and the Toledo Youth Orchestra as well as performed on the Way Public Library Young Artist Series.
Katie and her husband, R. Michael Jones, have three homeschooled children. They own LOMS Music (http://www.LOMSMusic.com). Outside of music, Katie enjoys running, cake decorating, and rifle and pistol shooting.

Under Katie Jones, the UT Flute Studio has hosted master classes by Leah Martindale and Gary Schocker. Gary is shown below instructing students, Brianne Little (left) and Erica Deringer (right). Each semester, the Studio presents a recital to showcase its members and the UT Flute Choir.

Studio and Flute Choir Members are flutists from all majors: pre-veterinary, pharmacy, literature, and education among others. They are also involved in the Rocket Marching Band, the Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and University Band.
