Timothy Brakel
Dr. Timothy D. Brakel is a member of the music faculty at The University of Toledo as Assistant Professor of Music Education with his primary duties focusing on instrumental music education. Dr. Brakel taught music education at Weber State University, Ogden, Utah prior to his appointment at The University of Toledo.  He has considerable teaching experience at both the high school and middle school levels in both band and choir.  Dr. Brakel has appeared as a clinician, recitalist, and adjudicator throughout the United States.  He has been a guest conductor on numerous occasions including the Western Jamaica International Music Festival.  Dr. Brakel has performed with musical groups representing a wide spectrum of musical styles – concert bands, symphony orchestras and jazz ensembles.  He has performed with Manhattan Transfer, Maureen McGovern and the Utah Symphony under the direction of Keith Lockhart.  He has conducted presentations at music education conferences on the topics of teaching styles, the interdisciplinary curriculum, student teaching, instrumental music attrition and the National Standards of Music Education.  Dr. Brakel also appeared on Utah Public Radio to discuss the parent’s role in developing musical talent in young children.  His research has been published in the Southeastern Journal of Music Education.  Dr. Brakel is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Contributions to Music Education Editorial Board, Ohio Society of Music Teacher Education Board and Phi Kappa Lambda.  A former student of Dr. Eugene Rousseau, Dr. Brakel received a Doctorate in Music Education degree from Indiana University where he later served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Education.
