    994924 ~ Director, Network & Telecommunications

    Job 994924 ~ Director of Network & Telecommunications:

    The Director of Network & Telecommunications reports to the VP IT/CIO.  Directly responsible for providing technical and managerial leadership for the development and delivery of network and telecommunications infrastructure services with The University of Toledo Main Campus, Hospitals and Clinics, Health Services and related entities.  The successful candidate must have a minimum of 7 years experience in Networking (data), Telecommunications (voice/phone), and Video conferencing preferably in higher education institution, with increasing levels of supervisory and budgetary responsibilities.  Participate in the development and implementation of overall operational policies and procedures relating to the operations of network and telecommunications infrastructure.  Responsible for the capital and operating budgets related to network infrastructure, data (servers) and telephone cabling, the fiber optic plant and telephone installations.  Directly responsible for managing network and telecommunications infrastructure and over 30 field operations support personnel.

    The University of Toledo network has over 10,000 wired nodes, 300 Nortel/Cisco switches, Cisco Pix firewalls, Tipping Points, etc. In addition, a growing campus-wide Cisco secure wireless network in buildings. Operating systems are predominantly: Microsoft Windows with a small number of Apple, AIX, and UNIX/Linux systems. Others are Microsoft Exchange, SunGard Banner, Blackboard, GE and McKesson medical systems are part of the mix. At the desktop level, The University of Toledo is 90/10 Windows and Macintosh. The voice system includes a NEC PBXs system with over 1,500 extensions. The University of Toledo is in the early stages of VOIP implementation.
