T99118, T99117, T9916 Three Postdoctoral Positions Synthetic Medicinal Chemists:
Requirements for all three positions include: PhD in organic or synthetic medicinal chemistry; 0 to 3 years postdoctoral experience in organic or synthetic medicinal chemistry; fluency in spoken and written English; ability to cover own costs for interview visit and move to the area.
Position T99118 involves syntheses of natural products that are typically achievable via 5 to 15 steps and do not have more than 2 asymmetric centers.
Position T99117 involves synthesis of small molecule analogs of front-line screening hits using ligand-based drug design strategies to improve potency, selectivity and overall ADMET properties. This individual will also participate in conducting assays for some biological assessments and attend meetings discussing such data.
Position T99116 involves process chemistry syntheses conducted on a scale of 500 mg to 50 gm of purified products for targets typically achievable via 5 to 10 steps and having not more than 1 asymmetric center.
In additions to conducting such syntheses, individuals for all positions will be expected to: (1) Examine related background literature and design synthetic routes to the target compounds; (2) Characterize products by spectroscopic methods primarily involving proton, Cosy and carbon APT NMR, as well as by HPLC and the interpretation of vendor data for HRMS, MS and elemental analysis; (3) Submit samples and collected data into a compound collection and data storage system; and, (4) Submit detailed experimental and summary reports for each synthesis. Compound scales for positions T99118 and T99117 will typically be in the range of 50 mg to 5 gm of purified product. All individuals will be able to attend the department’s medicinal chemistry seminar program and to sit-in on selected project teams within the center so as to expand their medicinal chemistry knowledge in a more general manner.
Applicants should indicate which position they are most interested in and if they are willing to be considered for more than one position. Please submit: a one page cover letter that briefly highlights your background and professional goals; a full CV; a list of 5 individuals who may be contacted for reference purposes; a one page summary of your thesis and any postdoctoral work that specifically focuses upon chemical synthesis; and, a one page summary of your present and short-term future research interests. Materials should be sent to Paul Erhardt as five (5) separate PDF documents attached to a single e-mail. Review of applicants will begin on December 3, 2007 and will continue until all positions are filled.
