We invite nominations, either of oneself or of others, and applications from internal candidates for the position of Vice Provost for Graduate Affairs and the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies (COGS). This position will have oversight for over 4,000 graduate students in over 200 Master’s, Ph.D. and Ed.D. Programs. The Vice Provost & Dean will also have a leadership role in planning and implementing COGS strategic initiatives, developing new interdisciplinary graduate programs, and enhancing the national and international reputation of all of the University’s graduate programs. The Vice Provost & Dean, along with the VPs for Research, will be responsible for the alignment of the COGS programs with the University’s research initiatives. The Vice Provost & Dean will have budgetary authority over graduate assistantships allocated to academic units and will serve as the institution’s representative on graduate matters both inside and outside the University. This is a full time appointment.
Qualifications: The Vice Provost & Dean of the College of Graduate Studies should be a transformative leader and consummate professional who fully understands issues of higher education and organizational change; an excellent communicator who engenders trust through accessibility and transparency; a creative catalyst for interdisciplinary scholarship, research and training grants and programs; an accomplished administrator with command of budget, management and personnel issues, and evident commitment to diversity; a collaborator who can foster shared initiatives while maintaining a balance of centralized and distributed administrative functions; and an advocate for the College and the University both internally and externally. Candidates must have an earned doctorate, a substantial teaching, scholarship, and publication record; qualify for full membership as a graduate faculty, be a full professor or qualify for appointment as a full professor and a record of significant administrative achievement.
