What makes the Department of Economics at the University of Toledo unique is the ability to complete the degree in one academic year. Graduate students in the Department of Economics are required to take 30 credit hours (21 hours from the department of Economics). Students must pass two comprehensive exams (one in Macro and one in Micro) and complete a seminar paper.
Technically advanced students have the option of going on to complete a specialization in applied econometrics. This requires thesis guidance and the student works closely with a faculty member to produce a thesis which is presented to faculty and peer students upon completion.
Curriculum Information
During the first semester students are required to take Advanced Macro, Advanced Micro, Econometrics, Math for Economists, and a Seminar course in conducting economic research. During the second semester students take electives which must be approved by the Graduate Director (students must take 15 credit hours in the Fall and the Spring semesters to complete the program in 1 academic year).
