    Binge Drinking: Alcohol and Sexual Assault

    The Facts

    • 90% of all campus rapes happen when alcohol has been used by the victim or the assailant
    • 60% of college females will be infected by HIV or STD’s because they were under the influence of alcohol when sexual activity has occurred
    • 30% of all college students admit to have had unprotected intercourse because they were under the influence of alcohol
    • 70% of all college students admit to have had sex they might not have had if they were sober because of being under the influence of alcohol

    • Recognize When you Feel Uncomfortable in a Situation Before it goes to Far
    • Don?t Go Off With People YOU Don’t Know if you have been drinking
    • Make sure you and the person you are with are on the same page as to what is going on especially if you are both drinking
    • Tell people what you are doing if you are going out so they can get ahold of you

    How to know the bad signals of a person

    • The person you are with or who is talking to you has been drinking heavily
    • Ignores, Interrupts, does not listen to you when you speak
    • Uses phrases such as Uptight, Tease, Prude or other offensive words to get you to do what they want by making you feel bad about yourself
    • When you talk to someone else, does that person become jealous, possessive or paranoid because of your actions.

    The Unseen Assailant: The Date Rape Drug

    Date Rape Drugs are the new assailant in the actions known as sexual assault and even though they may not be thought of as the aggressor, they really are the true initiator of putting people in the dangerous position of Rape. Known to the world as Roofies (Rohypnol) or GHB (Gamma Hydroxy Butryic) both can easily become an unknown untasted addition to a drink that caused Loss of Inhibitions, Unconsciousness, Blackouts, Dizziness, or Disorientation. These drugs have no color or odor so anytime you drink an unknown drink you put yourself at risk of becoming a victim to these silent enemies of your safety.

    How To Not let them make you a Victim

    • Go out with people you know and who will look out for your best interests
    • Don't drink from community drinks that are not in sealed containers
    • Don't take drinks or drink drinks from persons you do not know
    • Don't leave your drink unattended
