    Obtaining User Accounts

    Introduction

This document describes how to obtain user accounts on multi-user systems managed by, or hosted by, Information Technology. It also lists some of the available features of those systems where possible.

Please note the following regarding accounts:

All enrolled UT students, faculty and staff receive a UTAD account for logging into computers on campus. E-mail accounts should be activated at the same time you activate your UTAD account.  Spam filtering is configured at a medium level for all email accounts.  However, settings can be changed at http://myutaccount.utoledo.edu/.

Datawarehouse accounts can be acquired by going to the Data Warehousing Web Site http://eitentapps.utoledo.edu/data_warehouse/. These accounts require written justification and authorization before accessing any HRS/FRS/SIS datawarehouse data.

    UTAD Account

UTAD accounts allow the holder to log onto any computer on campus and access their home directory ("H" drive) and departmental shares ("Z" drive). UTAD email accounts should be activated at the same time.  To activate go to http://myutaccount.utoledo.edu/.

    View the MyUT Account Manual

    Email

All enrolled UT students and UT faculty and staff must request email account activation by using http://myutaccount.utoledo.edu/ before the first use. These accounts allow the holder to send and receive Internet electronic mail using workstation software or via the web at http://email.utoledo.edu/ before the first use.  The email account remains active until the owner is no longer at UT. Unless registered, student email accounts expire after the 14th day of the term, and are purged 30-days later. This 30-day lag time gives the account holder time to notify their contacts of the change and to retrieve any mail needed by the student. Spring term e-mail accounts remain valid through the summer, but will be purged fall semester if not registered.

    UT Dial-up

The UT Dial-up Modem system uses your UTAD (University of Toledo's Authentication Domain) account and password for authentication.

Dial-up users should have a UTAD account since this is the same account used to access your University email mailbox. If you have not activated your UTAD account, go to http://myutaccount.utoledo.edu/ to activate it and set your password. You can also go to this site to confirm that your account is active or change your password.

Change your dial-up connection properties to reflect your UTAD account and password. You may need to enter your UserID in the format: UTAD\yourUserID where 'yourUserID' is your UTAD UserID.

No other changes should be required to your dial-up connection properties.

Your single UTAD account is used to authenticate and control access to the following University systems: Email, Dial-up access, Wireless access, Public Computing Labs, personal home directories, departmental shared directories, data warehouse, and most secured UT websites.

If you have any problems, please contact the IT Help Desk at 419.530.2400 or go to https://support.utoledo.edu/arsys/shared/login.jsp and submit a help ticket to the College Computing team.
