Every semester CHSHS students pay a student technology fee and that money goes right back out for the students of CHSHS. This return happens in the form of new technology and maintenance of existing technology. A brief overview of this is as follows:
There is a student checkout station located in the HH building in Room 2100. We currently have 100 wireless Dell Latitude laptops with accessories. The technology fee also paid for digital cameras and camcorders for checkout. A color printer, scanner and poster printer are available for student use only. Another large expense the Technology Fee covers is the cost of paper and toner. In addition, the committee authorized multimedia carts for laboratories so that students in laboratories had access to the same level of technological instruction as students in general classrooms in HH. The technology fee purchased a number of computers and various instructional software packages that are used in departments such as anatomy and physiology classes as well as specialized software for individual major classes. All departments within the College of Health Science & Human Service have benefited from the technology fees. Wireless access points were purchased covering the entire Health Science and Human Service Building. This allows students to use their wireless laptops in and around the HH building. Approximately 20% of the fee was dedicated to large item program specific technology. The technology fee covered the student personnel to staff the checkout office as well as the 2 labs open only to CHSHS students.
The technology fee has replaced the 62 computers in the HH student labs, Room 1244 and Room 2300, continuing with the plan to provide multimedia for laboratories, providing computers and technology for individual program needs, and hiring CHSHS student workers and a specialist who will only work on CHSHS student computers and student technology problems.
These are examples of just some of technology that has been purchased for use by students. I hope this has provided you with the information you seek. You will be seeing more and more technology in terms of up-dated computer laboratories, technology in your classes, and specialized technology in laboratories.
