LIBRARY GUIDE


While many students qualify for federal, state, or local college financial aid programs, researching these programs can be difficult. This guide lists several selected library sources that provide information on how to fund a college education. All titles are in the Carlson Library Reference Collection unless otherwise specified.

GENERAL

The A's and B's of Academic Scholarships
Most entries provide information in tabular form on number of awards, value range, class standing, study fields, renewability, restrictions, and application date. A short section identifies some non-collegiate academic scholarships. LB 2338 .L43 Reference.
The College Blue Book
Covers scholarships, fellowships, grants, and loans. Divided into nine broad subject areas. These areas are then sub-divided into more specific areas of interest within that field. Under these more specific headings are the award entries, listed alphabetically by sponsoring organization with full information. The College Board Scholarship Handbook

College Costs and Financial Aid Handbook
Planning ahead to meet college costs involves several different kinds of activities. This volume provides step-by-step advice on getting the financial aid needed. LB 2342 .C633a Reference.
College Student's Guide to Merit and Other No-Need Funding
Programs that award money solely on the basis of career plans, creative activities, writing ability, research skills, religious or ethnic background, military or organizational activities, athletic success, or just pure luck in random drawings. LB 2337.2 .C44x 1996-98 Reference.
The Foundation Directory
The standard annual reference source for information about private and community grant making foundations in the United States. Part 1 contains entries for foundations having at least $2 million in assets or $200,000 in annual giving. The Government Financial Aid Book
This book uncovers almost every important source of money available today, including state and government money offered through Stafford lans, SLC/Plus loans, Perkins loans, Pell grants, SEOG grants, college work-study programs, R.O.T.C. and state scholarships and grants. The Scholarship Book
The complete guide to private scholarships, grants, and loans for undergraduates. This guide is divided first by "school" of study, then area of interest, and then under specific subject. Each listing contains a very condensed description of the award, it eligibility requirements, deadline dates and where to get more information or an application.
