Dissertations and theses are often underutilized as sources of information. This page describes resources that can be used to identify dissertations and theses of interest.
All dissertations and theses of graduates of programs on the University of Toledo Health Science Campus (as well as those awarded under the former names of Medical College of Ohio and Medical University of Ohio) are available in the Mulford Health Science Library, either online or in hardcopy. (Scholarly projects for some University of Toledo Health Science Campus graduates are also available in print.) When looking for a dissertation, thesis, or scholarly project completed here, the best place to begin is University Libraries catalog. For more information, consult this help sheet: Using University Libraries to Find Theses & Dissertations.
Information on finding theses and dissertations granted at the University of Toledo Main Campus is available.
Identifying dissertations and theses from other institutions requires use of other resources. The primary tool for identifying dissertations and theses is Dissertation Abstracts International [off-campus access], to which the University Libraries have access. This database indexes dissertations and theses from over 1000 institutions, from 1861 to the present. Each year, almost 60,000 documents are added to the database. With DAI, Universiy faculty, staff, and students have access to 24-page previews of documents indexed since 1997. More information on Dissertation Abstracts can be found in the database.
Some other databases can also be used to identify dissertations and theses of within their particular disciplines: CINAHL (nursing and allied health) and PsycINFO (psychology).
