The Mulford Library serves as the preeminent provider of health information for Northwest Ohio through the following outreach programs:
Area Health Education Centers (AHEC)
In collaboration with The University of Toledo AHEC program, the Mulford Library provides access to information resources and services to AHEC preceptors, students on AHEC clerkships, health care professionals, and the public in Northwest Ohio. The AHEC web site provides access to the library catalog and other resources, and the Library's Reference/Outreach Librarian provides personal assistance with information retrieval for AHEC preceptors.
Information Services Outreach to Health Care Community of Northwest Ohio
The Mulford Library provides expert reference and research assistance at no cost to the heathcare community via telephone, email, or face-to-face. Interlibrary loan service and book circulation are available for a fee.
AIDS Info-Access for Northwest Ohio
The Mulford Library and five Northwest Ohio community-based organizations have developed a network that provides HIV and AIDS information to health care professionals, patients, and consumers in Northwest Ohio. The network web site identifies agencies and and organizations in fifteen Northwest Ohio counties that provide services to people with HIV/AIDS; the web site also provides links to information resources. Creation of this network was funded by the National Library of Medicine.
Information Services Outreach to Health Professionals Service Hispanics in the Northwest Ohio Region
According to government reports, Hispanics are an underserved population with regard to medical care. The Mulford Library obtained a grant from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine/Greater Midwest Region to establish a relationship with five clinics that serve a higher-than-average proportion of Hispanic patients. Internet connection for PubMed and other information resources were established, along with training for the healthcare providers.
