    Permissible Reduced Enrollment

    We know you are busy with classes, but with new SEVIS regulations you need to report to the OISS office before you register for less than full-time!

    Permissible Reduced Enrollment

    If you need to register for less than full-time,
    12 credit hours= undergraduate
    9 credit hours=graduate
    you need to get a letter from your department

    Permissible Reasons for Reduced Enrollment:

    • Illness or Medical Condition

    • Improper Course Level Placement

    • Initial Difficulty with the English Language

    • Initial Difficulty with Reading Requirements

    • To Complete Course of Study in Current Term

    • Unfamiliarity with American Teaching Methods

    Graduate students only: as long as the student is pursuing what the institution considers a full-time graduate program i.e. research or work on their dissertation

    Sample Letter from your Department Chairperson or Advisor

    To Whom It May Concern:

    This is written to confirm that YOUR NAME is presently pursuing a Masters/Bachelors degree in FIELD OF STUDY.  He/She is expected to complete course requirements for His/Her degree at the conclusion of Spring 03, Summer 03, etc.  YOUR NAME has a final Number of credit/s or has a final thesis degree requisite.  He/She will be required to register for NUMBER semester hour/s through his/her expected completion date of DATE.
