Calculating Your GPA
Grade Values
A     4.00 C+   2.33 D-   0.67
A-    3.67 C     2.00 F    0.00
B+   3.33 C-    1.67
B     3.00 D+   1.33
B-    2.67 D     1.00

All other grades (IN, IW, NC, PR, W, AND Z) are not used in the calculation of your GPA.

The credit hours for the PS grades, however, are included in your total number of hours earned.

Quality Hours: Credit hours of courses for which a grade value was assigned (see grade value chart above).

Quality Points: Number of points earned when quality hours are multiplied by grade value for each course.

Calculating Your GPA

  1. Multiply the grade value for each course by the number of quality   hours for each course to determine the quality points.

For example:

Course Grade Earned Hours Quality Hours Grade Value Quality Points
Composition I:
ENGL-1110>
B 3 3 x 3.00 9.00
Inter. Algebra:  MATH-1150 PS 3 0 x
0.00
Prin. of Psych:  PSY-1010 A 3 3 x 4.00 12.00
Total:
9 6
21.00

  1. The total quality hours and the total quality points are added.

  2. Note that the PS grade for Math has no grade value; therefore, there are no quality hours or quality points for that course.

  3. DIVIDE the total quality points by the total quality hours to determine your GPA for the semester. In the example above, the total quality points (21.00) would be divided by the total quality hours (6). Thus 21.00 divided by 6 = 3.500.

  4. According to the grade value chart above, this student would have a B+ average for the semester.

  5. Cumulative GPA:
  • Add the total quality hours for each semester. Then add the total quality points for each semester.
  • Divide the total quality points by the total quality hours to determine the GPA for all course work at The University of Toledo.
