First Women & Philanthropy Grant Awarded: This first award emphasizes the importance Women & Philanthropy places on legacy gifts-something that will have a lasting impact on the University Community. To celebrate our first award, and to make the formal announcement of the award, Women & Philanthropy hosted a lecture and reception.

Dedicated Donor: Edith Rathbun spoke during the dedication of University College’s new tutoring center, the Rathbun Cove, named in honor of the local philanthropist. Rathbun, a longtime supporter of University College, donated more than $90,000 for the project. The Learning Enhancement Center and the Math Learning and Resource Center are located on the lower level of Carlson Library on Main Campus.

Power of Women Is Focus of New Philanthropy Group
Though volunteerism among women is no new phenomenon, the role of women in charitable giving is receiving increased attention nationally. "Women & Philanthropy" is a collaborative effort of UT's Office of Institutional Advancement and several area women, including Toledo businesswoman Marianne Ballas.
