Misakabu Tshikunda -- Congo Copper
Presented by the Arts Council Lake Erie West
with Partial Support from Ohio Arts Council
Copper Repousse These works of art were created by taking a sheet of copper and heating it over an open fire. Once the copper is nearly red-hot it becomes malleable for the artist. The sheet of metal is placed on the sand where the artist shapes and designs the metal by pounding on it with wooden mallets and various types of wooden tools. The variety of colors that you see are a natural occurrence of the process. |
