The Team Patrol
We have Unit 618 – The Team Patrol, which is (most nights) a City of Toledo police officer and a UT police officer that patrol the neighborhoods surrounding campus where students live. They patrol seven days a week from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. They can be reached by dialing 911 or UTPD – 419-530-2600.
The unit patrols the city streets with a focus on traffic and parking violations, loud noise from music and parties, fights and disorderly conduct involving students in neighborhoods, local bars, and restaurants. The unit also look out for obscene acts between couples in cars and for people urinating in public.
As they are patrolling, they are also keeping their eyes and ears open for suspicious activity, such as people walking between houses, appearing to be casing out cars, and various other suspicious activities.
Duties
Officer Goldberg focuses on campus activities and events. Officer Protsman’s attention is off-campus activities and events.
Officer Protsman can assist with responding to any questions you may have about off-campus safety. He also works closely with most community and neighborhood organizations off campus. He has a very good working relationship with Toledo Police to make sure all information about the student community is shared.
Officer Protsman will also meet with students off campus at their home if there is a complaint filed against them regarding conduct unbecoming a college student. These complaints can also be referred to Student Judicial Affairs, depending on the nature of the complaint.
Officer Protsman will educate students on how to be a good neighbor and how not to get in trouble with the police. This information also helps develop amicable relationships between students and the permanent neighborhood residents.
Safety
A main focus of Officers Goldberg and Protsman is safety. They encourage all students to be cautious and observant at all times.
Report all suspicious activity and persons.
Please make sure you are very thorough if you speak with a police dispatcher. Never leave a door unlocked, never leave valuables in a car that are visible to others, never invite anyone into your home if you don’t know them. When you are having get-togethers in your home or residence hall suite/room, keep the numbers small and only allow guests with whom you are familiar.
